Painted on a visit to the Alhambra in the middle of winter with the snow still showing on the mountain tops in the distance. It was a bright day with cypresses and huge aloe flower heads silhouetted against a hazy sun. The buildings in the foreground are partly built into the hillside. This is the gypsy quarter with the old city wall running behind.
